September is Suicide Prevention Month. An excellent workshop that promotes suicide prevention is safeTALK from LivingWorks Education, the people behind ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training). safeTALK trains helpers to be alert to the risk of suicide and to link people having thoughts of suicide to trained intervention resources.
Our next public safeTALK session is on Thursday, October 15 from 9:00am to 12:30pm at the Oshawa and District Shrine Club (1626 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa). The cost is $60 per participant.
We also offer safeTALK to organizations (most recently to Durham Alternative Secondary School just last week).
If you would like more information on our upcoming session or would like to discuss booking the workshop for your organization, please do not hesitate to contact DMHS Training Coordinator David Clarke at 905-666-0831, ext. 3242 or dclarke@dmhs.ca.
David is also the contact for any enquiries regarding the 2-day ASIST workshop, which we next offer on Thursday, November 12 and Friday, November 13 at the Whitby Public Library’s Central Branch (9:00am to 4:00pm both days). The cost is $160 per person with a special rate of $125 for students. Again, don’t hesitate to contact David at 905-666-0831, ext. 3242 or dclarke@dmhs.ca.
Together we can help make our communities safer from the risk of suicide!
