DMHS recently conducted a safety training blitz, educating twenty-seven agency clients in fire safety, falls prevention, hand washing and emergency first aid.
The training was provided by DMHS coordinators and staff.
As an accredited health care organization, safety is a priority for DMHS. The training the clients received will help them stay safe in their homes and in the community.
“One thing I found remarkable about this project,” says DMHS Supportive Housing Coordinator Jack Vanderluit, “were the conversations afterwards among the clients. They were talking about what they had learned and what they can do differently to stay safe. It had an impact.”
“It was interesting,” says DMHS Housing client Bill. “It made me aware of things that I don’t normally think about, like the possibility of a fire breaking out. You never know when you might need to use this safety knowledge.”
