Information on Services and Supports

  • Information Durham – a comprehensive database of information on Durham Region’s social and community services, maintained by the United Way of Oshawa Whitby Clarington Brock & Scugog and the United Way of Ajax Pickering Uxbridge; searchable by topic or by organization name.
  • Mental Health Service Information Ontario (MHSIO) – a comprehensive database of information on mental health services and supports across Ontario, maintained by ConnexOntario Health Services Information, funded by the Government of Ontario.
  • Drug and Alcohol Registry of Treatment (DART) – a comprehensive database of information on drug and alcohol support services across Ontario, maintained by ConnexOntario Health Services Information, funded by the Government of Ontario.
  • Ontario Problem Gambling Helpline (OPGH) – a comprehensive database of information on problem gambling treatment services across Ontario, maintained by ConnexOntario Health Services Information, funded by the Government of Ontario.
  • Durham Region Employment Network (DREN) – A comprehensive website on employment and educational resources and organizations in the Durham Region. DREN is an organization with a network of over 70 member agencies and the website offers information on these agencies as well as employment, education/training, community services and programs available in the Durham Region.

Mental Health Information Websites

  • Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) – the website of Canada’s leading addiction and mental health teaching hospital; packed with educational material on mental health and addiction topics
  • Healthy Minds. Healthy Lives – a public information website sponsored by the American Psychiatric Association offering information about mental health, spotlighting mental health issues in minority communities and offering Let’s Talk Fact brochures for more information.
  • mindyourmind.ca is an award winning site for youth by youth. This is a place where you can get info, resources and the tools to help you manage stress, crisis and mental health problems. Share what you live and what you know with your friends. That’s what we’re about. Reach out. Get help. Give help.
  • Trauma and Mental Health Report – is a weekly online mental-health magazine published out of York University in Toronto.  It is managed under the supervision of Clinical Psychologist Dr. Robert T. Muller.  Its purpose is to share research-based knowledge with members of the community, on the topic of interpersonal trauma and mental health.

Mental Health Advocacy Groups

  • The Mood Disorders Association of Ontario (MDAO) – the website of Ontario’s leading support and advocacy group for individuals with mood disorders (e.g., depression, bipolar disorder) and their families; contains information on their programs and events, education on mood disorders, and more.
  • The Schizophrenia Society of Ontario (SSO) – the website of Ontario’s leading support and advocacy group for individuals with schizophrenia and their families; contains educational resources, information on their advocacy efforts, and information on their programs, services, and events.
  • The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) – the website of the MHCC, which was funded by the Government of Canada to develop a national strategy to address mental illness; the Commission’s priorities include its anti-stigma campaign, a homelessness research project, mental health education for all Canadians, and advocacy for individuals with mental illness at the national and provincial levels.

  • Central East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) – the website of the Central East LHIN, one of 14 Local Health Integration Networks established by the Government of Ontario to plan, coordinate, integrate, and fund health care services at the local level; Durham Region is part of the Central East Region.
